Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats (HU-LCD) are likely form a right – centre wing coalition with three other parties after having taken the biggest amount of seats in Parliament in yesterday’s run off elections.
During the second round of voting, HU-LCD collected 26 mandates. Their final result is 44 seats out of 141 in the Seimas.
Lithuanian Social Democrats (LSD), which had the Prime Minister’s seat in the government’s last tenure, gathered 14 more seats and will have a parliamentary fraction of 26.
Three more seats were gained by the newly-established Rising Nation Party (RNP) during the second round. The party will have 16 seats in the Seimas.
The Order and Justice Party got four more seats, remaining the fourth biggest party in the Parliament with 15 seats.
The Labour Party + Youth finished with 10 seats, adding two to the eight from the first round.
Liberal Movement of Republic of Lithuania (LMRL) gathered six more mandates. The party’s 11 elected members are likely to enter the right-wing coalition, formed by HU-LCD leader Andrius Kubilius.
Another party aiming to enter the ruling coalition, Liberal and Centre Union (LLCU), has eight seats after getting three in the second tour.
Three more parties will have their representatives in the Seimas after the second election round. Lithuanian Polish Electoral Action got two mandates.
The Lithuanian People Peasants Party will take four seats. The New Union also got one mandate in the new tenure of Lithuanian parliament.
The votes are going to be recounted in four ballot districts due to irreducible difference of votes for the two candidates.
The leaders of right wing parties HU-LCD, RNP and both liberal parties LMRL and LLCU are planning to form a new ruling coalition with their 79 seats. It will be Homeland Unions first time in the majority in ten years.
