During his working visit to China on 26 May, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis met with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and discussed relations in the economy and culture fields, the cooperation of the countries within international organizations.
"This year we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between our states. China is our important partner in Asia and we aim at deepening our political dialogue in terms of trade and investments, tourism, culture, sports, education and science”, Minister A.Ažubalis said.
In his words, Lithuania welcomes the interest of Chinese businesses to cooperate in the fields of new technologies, tourism, transport and trade.
Minister A.Ažubalis presented the priorities and current issues of Lithuania‘s Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), as well as informed about Lithuania’s Presidency of the Community of Democracies and preparations for the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
According to Lithuania‘s Minister of Foreign Affairs, China dedicates a lot of attention to Lithuania, which is confirmed with the visits of high-ranking Chinese officials to Lithuania. China‘s Vice-Premier paid a visit to Lithuania in 2009. Last year President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė visited China.
Minister A.Ažubalis invited his Chinese counterpart to visit Lithuania.
