Following the latest explosion from Iceland's Grimsvotn volcano, the Civil Aviation Authority has warned that flights to the United Kingdom and Norway may be cancelled.

Lithuania's airspace will not be closed, the authority said.

"I do not think that Lithuania's air space will be closed, because the distance is very high. This can affect some of the flights to Great Britain, Iceland, Norway and perhaps you will need to make adjustments," the authority's director Kestutis Auryla said.

The eruption at Grimsvotn, which started a few days ago, has seen ash spread towards Scotland, causing hundreds of flights to be cancelled already.

Auryla said that the Ryanair flights that operate to the UK would likely be safe to fly unless conditions change.

He said that flights across Europe will continue as planned unless the volcano erupts again. So far the data from the area has shown that emissions are decreasing and heavier particles are falling to earth already.
