Thirteen Lithuanian and foreign companies contributing to the creation of social well-being and reduction of negative environmental impact were recognised at the National Responsible Awards.
The contest was organised by the United Nations Development Programme in Lithuania in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Security and Labour. President Valdas Adamkus was the patron of the event.
This year’s awards attracted even more attention than in the previous years and a total of 83 entries were received from 53 companies.
Winners of the "Employer of the Year” and "Debut of the Year” were congratulated by the Minister of Social Security and Labour, who claimed that corporate social responsibility had become more than a matter of fashion as it had been before. Now it is an aspiration and a necessity when creating corporate added value.
"The corporate sector is choosing the path of socially responsible business, which is optimistic.” In the previous years, foreign companies constituted the majority of participants in these awards. However, today, a new tendency is emerging. The number of Lithuanian socially responsible companies is increasing. Activities of these companies are not limited to the provision of services, which they were concerned with in the previous years. They gradually turn to manufacture and industry – the fields, which require more effort to introduce and maintain standards of corporate social responsibility,” Donatas Jankauskas said.
The National Responsible Business Award is presented to enterprises which mostly contribute to the creation and strengthening of social welfare and reduction of environmental impact in Lithuania. The activities of these enterprises demonstrate their leadership and sincere commitment to operate transparently, fairly treat employees, society and the state. This year’s awards were primarily focused on the environmental theme.
