On May 2 the modern dance festival New Baltic Dance ‘11 will start at the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre for the fifteenth time. It will be opened with renowned Danish choreographer Palle Granhoj’s performance Dance Me To The End of on/off love – a work based on the music of Canadian poet and singer Leonard Cohen.

Palle Granhoj - one of the most famous Danish choreographers, Granhoj dans’, founder and art director. In his piece Dance Me To The End of on/off love, Palle Granhoj explores the term "dance-concert” through the music of Leonard Cohen and creates a selection of images inspired by Granhoj Dans’ work through the past two decades.

Palle Granhoj, whose work has been described by the international critics as "magical” and also as "a touching stage language”, will in this production search for new dimensions whilst confronting the universe of longing and melancholy portrayed by the highly renowned poet and composer.

The piece Dance Me To The End of on/off love possibly to be seen as a self-portrait; a representation of the company and its development over past 20 years. The work consists of words and music by Leonard Cohen, the acoustics and bodies of 11 performers/musicians and the stage presence of Palle Granhoj.

"Dans Granhoj’ performance in Lithuania and the rest of the New Baltic Dance’ program is funded by the Nordic Culture Fund. The aim of the Nordic Culture Fund is to support a broad spectrum of cultural cooperations between the Nordic countries.

The Fund concerns itself with a wide range of art- and culture related areas, involving both professionals and amateurs. The Fund supports activities characterized by quality, vision, accessibility, and variety, where both traditional and new ways of working can be developed.
