A brand new musical product has been launched by talented artists and performers from Lithuania. Behind this endeavor are two groups: The Dainius Pulauskas Group, winner of the 2004 Golden Disc (Lithuanian equivalent to The Grammy Award) and the Sutaras Folk Music Band, winner of the main prize for traditional culture in Lithuania – Golden Bird (main award for performance of traditional culture).

The project, which united the two groups, is dedicated to the city of Vilnius. All the compositions are based on folksongs celebrating calendar holidays, love, work, war and children’s lore that relate to Lithuania’s capital – Vilnius.

The two groups have different styles to express their special feelings for the city. The joint effort merges authentic Lithuanian and other folk traditions with electronic tones and energetic rhythms together with beautiful folk lyrics. Listeners can easily recognize ballads "dressed up” as jazz, folksongs and dances embellished with Latin rhythms, Dixieland, fusion or hard rock.

The Dainius Pulauskas Group is one of the most distinctive and most active jazz groups in Lithuania. It has developed its own style on electronic and acoustic instruments to create its own brand of music, a distinctive version of fusion, based on the skills not only of the whole group together, but also on those of each of its members. They are all professional musicians, active on the Lithuanian jazz scene, and also playing superbly with other groups.

Today the Dainius Pulauskas Group is well known not only among listeners in Lithuania but also by listeners abroad, appearing at home and away to the great acclaim of the public and critics. The Finnish jazz critic R. Haapsamo called their music "the mighty pulse of jazz”.

Over the years the Dainius Pulauskas Group has participated in many prestigious jazz festivals in Europe, Asia and America, and issued five CD’s and two DVD’s.

The Sutaras Folk Music Band (Sutaras) was formed in 1988. Since then the Band has made over 5000 public appearances, taken part in the most important European folk music festivals, and appeared in North America, Australia and Asia. The group performs old polyphonic Lithuanian music and traditional improvisations on authentic instruments (panpipes, flutes, bagpipes, wooden horns, zithers), various regional songs, dances and romances of the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century. Its musicians also like to involve members of the audience in playing, singing and dancing. Sutaras has issued eight CD’s and one DVD.
