"Outbound" (Periferic) by the Romanian director Bogdan George Apetri has won the "New Europe — New Names" film competition that is run during the Kino Pavasaris film festival.
The competition, which was run along side the 16th Vilnius international film festival, featured the debut feature films of new directors from central and eastern Europe.
Special mention was given to Turkish actor Bartu Kucukcaglayan for his role in film "Majority" (Cogunluk). Mention was also given to the actors of Slovak film "The House" and a prize was awarded to the film's director Zuzana Liova.
The jury was headed by director Milcho Manchevskij who was joined by Nadya Turyncev, producer, Alante Kavaitė, director and script writer, Gary McVey, director of American cinema foundation and Fred Kelemen, director and cinematographer.
The 16th Vilnius international film festival‘s audience award went to Canadian drama "Incendies" directed by Denis Villeneuve. The film was so popular, that all screenings of the film were sold-out and not even four additional screenings were enough to satisfy demand.
For the first time this year the audience voted for the best Lithuanian film. The audience decided that the best Lithuanian movie this year is "Knygnesys" (The Book Smuggler) by Jonas Trukanas.
"Best debut Lithuanian director" was awarded for the second year and this time the award went to Mantas Kvedaravicius and his documentary "Barzakh”.
