The 12th International Book Fair, the largest of its kind in the Baltic States, opened on Feb. 17 in Vilnius. It is the most important cultural event in Lithuania this year.

The four days Fair will host 330 events; discussions, performances, exhibitions and presentations of books with 220 participants. Among the guests are Stephen Clarke, Ivan Korsak, Catalin Dorian Florescu, Edward Lucas, Kevin Brooks, Mike Gayle and Sofi Oksanen.

"The slogan of this years’ book fair is 'For the right to read'. The state’s vital task is to ensure availability of books for all citizens and guarantee support for the publishing of new books, their spread, as well as enrich libraries’ funds," the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite said during the opening of the Vilnius Book Fair at the Lithuanian Exhibition and Convention Centre LITEXPO.

This year the Fair is dedicated to the 100th birth anniversary of writer, poet and Nobel Literature Prize laureate Czeslaw Milosz and the 100th death anniversary of one of the most prominent Lithuanian composers and painters Konstantinas Ciurlionis.
