A poll released on Saturday has shown that President Dalia Grybauskaite is still the most favourably viewed politician in Lithuania.
According to the survey commissioned by the Lietuvos rytas newspaper, 42 percent of respondents said they approved of Lithuania's head of state.
The result is a drop of 8 percentage points over the previous month for Grybauskaite, but it still gives her a commanding lead over parliamentary speaker Irena Degutiene, who placed a distant second at 13.6 percent.
Labour Party leader Victor Uspaskich stood third at 6.8 percent.
Only 2.3 percent of Lithuanians gave a nod to Conservative Party leader and Lithuanian prime minister Andrius Kubilius, according to the poll.
Several other prominent politicians garnered ratings of 4-5 percent.
The poll also showed that Lithuania's opposition parties would take the largest chunks of the popular vote in hypothetical parliamentary elections.
Labour would take 16.1 percent of the vote in a national election, the Social Democrats would garner a 16 percent share, and Order and Justice 10.8 percent.
The Conservatives, who lead Lithuania's current centre-right governing coalition, would finish fourth at 9.6 percent.
Several minnow parties would not cross the 5 percent barrier needed for representation in the Seimas.
Almost no Lithuanians – 0.3 percent – would vote for the National Resurrection Party, which took 15.1 percent of the popular vote in October 2008 Seimas elections, finishing second behind the Conservatives who got nearly 20 percent.
The Lietuvos rytas survey was conducted on December 3-8 by the Vilmorus research company.
