Lithuania records first swine flu death (1)

A 14-year old pupil died in Kaunas on Wednesday, the first casualty in Lithuania of the influenza of A virus subtype H1N1, health minister Algis Caplikas told the Baltic News Service.
Officials confirmed that the teen died from complications brought on by swine flu after five days of intensive therapy, according to the report.
Speaking to a news conference, deputy health minister Arturas Skikas said more specialists will be assigned to hospitals and clinics, and that working hours will be extended.
Lithuania‘s head epidemiologist Vytautas Bakasenas expects a greater than average number of people will be afflicted by the H1N1 virus.
As much as twenty percent of the population might fall ill with this type of flu, BNS reported.
Flu epidemics have been declared in six districts in southern and eastern Lithuania.-
