Lithuanian politicians have well entertained Lithuania with their speeches and "juicy" quotes. Some of them have already become a part of the folklore.
"Lithuania is going bankrupt! This is a feast in time of plague!” said Eurocommisioner Dalia Grybauskaite for countless times. Speaking while on her visits to Lithuania or straight from narrow corridors of Brussels, she has tried and tried to remind Lithuanians and the government that the joyful times of spending money here and there have ended. Neither the government nor the nation did not want to believe in these gloomy predictions.
"There’s no crisis!” repeated ex-prime minister Gediminas Kirkilas for months. It’s not ascertained if he was trying to convince himself or the people with this statement, but it’s at least clear that the crisis is staring upon everybody today.
"Let’s tighten our belts!” exclaims Andrius Kubilius, the new head of the government. He has inherited a huge hole in the budget from his predecessor There’s-no-crisis Kirkilas. Kubilius frightens that this hole will devour everyone from banks to simple people.
"You are raping me while standing!” confessed Vida Marija Cigriejiene while leading the first session of newly elected Seimas. The oldest member of Parliament was affected this way by the secret voting for new Speaker of Seimas.
"Let us inside this mad boat!” pleaded Arunas Valinskas and his party during the Parliament election campaign. And they did let him in and made him the captain of the boat. For this occasion he explained: "I am the one of the three officials of the country. Have this in mind, my dearest ones.”
"They didn’t check my intoxication, because there was no need to. The doctor said, that there’s no smell, nothing, and I’m absolutely coordinated and straight!” struggled the former parliamentarian Gintautas Mikolaitis, while journalists had footage of his dubious condition in Seimas palace.
"During the last few months there has been no decrease in prices yet, instead the deceleration of the increase of the prices. Anyway, in general, the decrease of the food prices is approximately 20 percent,” clumsily but as usual optimistically explained G. Kirkilas about half a year ago. The prices were actually sky high and the inflation was fluctuating.
"I’m not mature enough for such a thing!” said 67 year-old Vilnius mayor Juozas Imbrasas, expressing his opinion about homosexuals’ rights to organize public events.
"If you’re getting raped, just better give in!” said former Speaker of Seimas Viktoras Muntianas during the negotiation for the chairs for his tiny Citizens’ party.
Finally, the "three headed dragon", which later turned into the "furry baby lion", is sound until today. The deals, bargains, scandals and secrets of "Leo LT" are as mystical and mythic as the dragon, morphing into the lion.
